ROTC: The Return of The Comeback

The Return of the ROTC or the Reserve Officers Training Corps, it's no star wars movie yet it's one of the most popular issues getting the most buzz and the most debates after the whole 'clash' of Philippines and China. But what does Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa have to say about this?

In an interview with Karen Davila for ANC Headstart, the senator shares his thoughts.

"Gusto niyo ng gera sa China, ayaw niyo naman ng ROTC", he argues. The people mostly the "netizens" wants to fight with a range of fury flowing through his veins but does not see that the real battle would be more than just a banter between keyboards. That's why if the country wants to fight, Philippines has to be ready to go against China and ROTC is the way to go.

Still, a lot says otherwise and just agrees with the Mandatory Military Training like in abroad and now this where once again the conflict arise with bato and the people. "That's Harder to pass" he says because if they were going apply the Mandatory Military Training in the Philippines there will be people who would be rioting in the streets. He believes as he has been through both CAT (Citizens Army Training) and the Reserve Officers Training Corps that it would be fit and best to re-institute.

Bato learned to be patriotic way back before he became a police and was only in ROTC and CAT. He points out that the students of Grade 11 and 12 with only the basic ROTC, developing their patriotism for the country and can be continued optionally until college with the Advance Reserve Officers Training Corps Program.

This is the Senator's decision because it will be better to "breaking it to them gently" and to "dahan-dahan muna" than to go harsh with applying it to the people.

If ROTC will come back and will be included to the learning curriculum. Then, the Department of Education and the Department of National Defense will be having discussions through closed doors to re-formulate the program that will be more suited to the generation of today.
