DepEd ASEC. umali: brigada eskwela engages ‘bayanihan’

Department of Education (DepEd) Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali went over the concept of ‘bayanihan’ and partnership in Brigada Eskwela.

“We expect all our partners and stakeholders to band together para mabuhay uli ang sinasabi mong bayanihan,” he said.
​
Teachers, parents, and barangays come help public schools during Brigada Eskwela. Private sectors also come in to help by donating in kind and volunteering.
​
In year 2015, number of volunteers were at 8.8 million, the number increased in 2017 with 11.6 million volunteers in Brigada Eskwela.
DepEd also received P4 billion donation in kind in year 2015. This increased to P7.2 billion in year 2017.

“The concept of Brigada Eskwela, it is the concept of engaging with our stakeholders, our partners all year-round…the concept of bayanihan will happen year-round,” Asec. Umali explained.

He said that they have a Hall of Fame where they thank schools who actively participates in Brigada Eskwela. They also held ceremonies and award to active schools. While for the Local Government Units (LGU) that helps are given “Brigada Eskwela’ Seal of Excellence Award.
