ALS: The Bread Winner's Helping Hand to Success

ALS or Alternative Learning System is a program designed for people who were not able to finish their studies to work and help for their families as a bread-winner. But what is ALS really and how would it help our fellow Filipinos?

In an interview with Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali says that ALS is a "alternatibong pagbibigay kaalaman" to give people who are not fortunate enough to finish studies due to poverty and has to work in a young age a chance to pursue their dream.

Though according to Asec. Umali, It isn't like going to a regular learning system because ALS is a module basis system where there are components such as critical thinking and problem solving, communication skills, and ways on how you will be productive. There will also be a pre-test before a module and a post-assessment test about what they learned after ten months.

The Alertnative Learning System is also flexible which means you will only go there for just once or twice a week that will be very convenient specially to those who is a working student.

When they have finally finished through all of their modules they will be given a Accreditation and Equivalency test and if they pass they will be automatically graduate and will be either a grade seven student or a grade eleven student more often called a senior high student.

ALS is open to not only the people who are less than fifteen (15) of age but will also be planned to give individuals who are in the drug rehabilitation centers a chance to be able to finish their studies and live a normal life with the support of President Rodrigo Duterte's programs in fighting drugs and was one of the things mentioned in the SONA by the President and will be one of the things given a bigger budget by DepEd.

To get in to the ALS program or you have any queries about it you can approach Local Government Unit and the School Division Offices. The program is free to anyone who wishes to finally finish their studies.

With that said, Asec. says "makakasigurado kayo," that the ALS learner will equally learn as much as the formal education learner.
